So the news this week is the courage displayed by our local rep in helping to engineer the Oregon budget bill. I'll give him points for courage, and he is clearly getting some flak for it. "Eating their own" is tradition for Democrats, it's nice to see the GOP doing it for a change.
I think Mr. Patridge needs to leave the House for several reasons, but most of them aren't personal, and I would certainly not consider him a "Rat Bastard", which his own party apparently now does (see above article). I think he needs to be out because I think I can do a better job and we are in the same district. So one of us can't go to Salem - I'd prefer it be him who stays home. For example, I think this solution is the wrong solution. We already are overtapping the income as a revenue source, yet the new solution is to tap it more? Courage is commendable, courage while being bone-headed is still being bone-headed. Hrm...
But what of soccer? Well, it's the start of my season. We took the field in a Jamboree this afternoon (we did very well - details on BucsBlog), and I will be living soccer for the bulk of my days for the next several weeks (ideally 10-11 of them) and it means I won't be throwing much in the way of opinion up here. But today was a big day for Representative Patridge (three sep articles in the Trib? How often does that happen) and I thought I'd share a few words. We do still need to consider the FULL PACKAGE he provides us in Southern Oregon and ask: is it REALLY what we need? Is it REALLY serving our needs as Southern Oregonians?
We have been, as a state, saying what we 'want' (local control, fair taxes) and what we value (education, jobs) and then electing representatives that deliver something else (baseball, further skewing of revenue sources.
Change is not a bad thing, when the current thing is less than ideal.
Meantime, if you want to keep up with the soccer version of me, look here. There will be more activity on that site than this one between now and mid November.
